Νεῦρον - nerve, and λόγος - science; "science of nerves") a branch of medicine dealing with the occurrence of diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, as well as studying the mechanisms of their development, symptoms and possible diagnostic methods, treatment and prevention. A physician with a higher medical education and a specialization in neurology is called a Neurologist (until the 1980s - a neuropathologist).
